Frequently Asked Questions

Play Space

  • Which payment methods are available?

We accept cash and EFTPOS (no minimum purchase). All cards (except Diners Club) are welcome, including American Express. For group bookings (school visits etc) we can organise to invoice your organisation but this must be pre-co-ordinated with our centre prior to your visit.

  • What ages is the play space suitable for?

Our play space is designed for kids aged 12months up to 12 years. Our baby/toddler section is closest to our cafe next to our oversize viewing windows, but of course we do welcome interactive play with parents/carers and kids. Our foot-to-floor car speedway is designed for kids 5 years and under.

  • How many children can I bring?

At entry we ask that no more than 6 children enter with a single parent/guardian. This is for safety and supervision purposes; if you wish to have more come at a single time then we ask that more than one adult accompanies your group. Our entry prices are based on a ‘sliding scale’ wherein the first child over 12months is $5 and subsequent children are $2 each, with the 7th child entry being $5 and so on.

  • Is the centre heated and cooled?

Yes we most definitely have heating in our centre (it is Portland after all!). Our play space has gas overhead radiant heaters central to the play space and our clothing exchange has a small split system. In summer, our playspace can get quite warm as it is in a corrugated iron shed. We have two industrial size fans and have the option of opening up our side roller door (fenced on the inside) for extra air circulation.

At this stage, we have no air conditioning in the playspace, but dependent on demand and recurring hot weather this may be an upgrade. Our café has a ceiling mounted split system (you will note in our pictures that our play space and café are separated by a wall with oversized windows and a hinged door for entry/exit into and from playspace.

Café

  • Does it cost to enter the café?

No it doesn’t cost money for you to enter the café; our entry prices apply to plays for children. Children over 13 years and adults are free entry into our café - and you are most welcome to visit us for a meal or snack even if you don’t come with kids. We operate like any normal café that way.

  • Do you serve gluten free products?

Yes, we have a range of Gluten Free items on our menu. Our milkshakes are made with gluten free Peter’s Vanilla Icecream, and our Bondi Chai powder is gluten free also. Gluten is present in our centre. we take utmost care to avoid cross-contamination, using separate utensils & preparation areas for sandwiches & toasting. As some gluten free items are still prepared in our regular prep area (i.e. nachos & salad), we ask that when placing your order, you alert our staff so the necessary precautions can be taken to ensure your meal meets your needs.

  • Can I bring my own food?

Yes we welcome people to bring their own snacks for their families when they visit. Even though we intentionally keep our prices low, we understand a visit to a play centre can become an expensive outing and we do not want to make that a limitation for people visiting our centre. We do ask however that any external food brought into the centre is COMPLETELY NUT FREE.

  • Can the café be hired for events?

At this stage we do not have an official outside hours centre hire strategy. We may be available for your organisation, meeting or support group outside our normal operating hours (except Sundays). Please contact our centre on 0484 574 579 if you wish to discuss any group bookings.

Parties

  • How do I book a party?

Head over to our PARTIES page. You can submit a booking request form there and we can get back to you.  Otherwise please pop into our centre to check availabilities and fill out a booking form. All parties require a $40 securing deposit, which comes off the balance of your party total.

  • Can we bring our own party food and cake?

You are welcome to bring in any extra food that you choose (birthday cakes welcome!), but we ask that any food brought in MUST NOT contain any nuts. Any extra hot food you bring must be pre-cooked, we cannot cook or warm food on your behalf. Thank you for your understanding.

  • How many kids can you cater for?

All parties have a minimum of 8 paying children and maximum of 20 for use of any party room. We thank you for understanding.

Other Stuff

  • How do I become a volunteer?

We welcome volunteers of all ages 13+. A simple application process & short orientation session is essential for all volunteers. All volunteers require a valid Working With Children Card (FREE for volunteers) and a National Police Check.  We hold regular volunteer intake sessions; please keep a look out on this website and our social media pages for updates and session times.

  • Can I donate clothing to the exchange?

Absolutely, we LOVE donations, as a way for you to not only move on unwanted/no longer needed items, but a way to pay it forward to those needing & making use of our clothing exchange.  You are MOST welcome to donate without having it apply to any account or credited to yourself.  We always love bigger sizes (6-16).
